SARS Our Protector Indeed!!!!!!
Growing up I heard of the "exploits" of Adolf Hitler and his German machine (Nazi army and sophisticated artillery) and in my teen years I saw the movie titled "Escape from Sobibor" and I could not but feel sympathy on the gruesome scene meted on humans. Sobibor was one of the deadliest Nazi concentration death camps alongside Auschwitz located not in Germany but Poland. Poland was one of the earliest country conquered by the Nazi shortly after three polish mathematicians broke the enigma code (secret codes sent by the enigma machine to pass encrypted messages of war) using elements of probability theory. In these camps the Germans kept, tortured and killed humans in their millions in what today is known as the Jewish holocaust.
Lately I have been reading about the notorious activities perpetrated by certain elements of the Nigerian police force called SARS even though it didn't start today and I seem to wonder if we are back to the Nazi era, you do not need to be a victim before you can feel the inhumanity coming from these men of the police force. Even though we might slightly agree that this unit force have carried out their job on robbery, it is in no doubt that the innocent have been on the major receiving end. When is it now the job of SARS to demand for car receipts? The worst of it all once you are a young man driving car, as far as they are concerned you are a criminal or once you caught with a laptop, you are automatically a yahoo boy, they claim to fight crime but all I see them doing is meddling in civilian matters. Somebody reported a business deal that went sore to you, the next thing you do is to arrest the reported victim without investigation, torture but to later find out that the reported victim was innocent, despite all this you demanded for bail before his release. Crime fighters indeed!
The IGP gave a directive for the SARS to be restructured, but this is Nigeria where all these orders are the common narrative we hear daily. I saw a sarcastic post which reads "there was a day a group of thieves wanted to rob me as I was running I saw SARS ahead immediately I ran back to the thieves for safety", yes this shows how terrible this people can be if you find yourself in their death camp. It is better to spend months in the Nazi concentration camp or better in Boko Haram's detention than spend a night in the SARS hole.
